An honorary evening dedicated to Professor Ioannis Ioannis of the University of Cyprus, recognizing his significant contribution to the promotion of the Department of French Studies and French literature in the sciences and public thought. The event honors his work, his academic and intellectual initiatives, but also his dedication to the promotion of the French language and culture in Cyprus. The audience will have the opportunity to experience the impact of his action, through speeches and references to his multifaceted contribution to education and culture.

He/She was:

He holds a degree in French Literature (Jean Moulin-Lyon 3) and a Higher Diploma in Modern Greek Literature and Culture (La Sorbonne Nouvelle). He holds a PhD in French Literature and Culture (Jean Moulin-Lyon 3). He taught at the Universities of Lumière-Lyon 2 (1979-80) and Jean Moulin-Lyon 3 (1981-85 and 1991-92). He worked in the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture (1987-1991). From 1992 to 2022, he worked at the University of Cyprus where he served as Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (1997-2003) and founded the Department of French as a Foreign Language, the Department of French and European Studies and the French Language and Literature Program. He is also the lecturer and founder of the Modern Languages and European Studies Program of the same Department. He is the author of books published in Cyprus, Greece and France. During his tenure as Dean, he promoted the proposal that separated the School of Humanities and Social Sciences into two (as it is today) and three new Departments were established at the same time (French and European Studies, Law and Psychology, as well as the Language Center). He published over 80 scientific articles in the USA, Canada, France, Turkey, Greece, Romania and Cyprus. For his contribution to French Literature, he has been honored by the French Government with the Medal of Officer of the Order of the Academic Palm (2005). His book Spatiotemporal in Poetry (Kastaniotis 2000) has been honored with the first Essay Prize of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus. For his overall contribution to Science, Letters and the Arts, the Paul Valéry – Montpellier 3 University awarded him the title of Honorary Doctor of that University.
