The living history of Cypriot Folk Poetry
18:20
MUSICAL PERFORMANCE
With Marina Chryssi & Elias Elias Hadjimichael

SUMMARY
An interactive journey into the world of Cypriot folk poetry, from the first tsiattistas and absurdities to the modern era. We discover how poetry was born through the everyday life of the people, what were its basic genres, the various musical voices and which great folk poets left their indelible mark. With live examples and interactive snapshots, we will highlight the importance of the Cypriot dialect and how folk poetry remains alive and relevant in the modern era. At the same time, there will be a reference and connection with modern poetic publications in the Cypriot dialect, such as “Orpida” by Marina Chryssi and “Kkevlitiki mou traoudkia” by Ilias Ilias Hadziimichail.
