Mikis Theodorakis (1925-2021) was a complex creative personality, a charismatic and brilliant Composer, who created a huge multifaceted work, covering almost all areas of artistic and scholarly music, while at the same time he was a militant politician and artist. He was the man of ideas who acted and created within the historical events of his time. With his work and his actions, he found himself at the epicenter of the intellectual and political life of Greece and contributed to the cultural renaissance of the country. He influenced more strongly than any other Greek, in the formation of the "historical consciousness" and identity of the Modern Greeks and became the educator of the Modern Greek people. He was the Greek composer who gained global recognition and the man who traveled Greek culture throughout the world. He became the dawning beacon of modern Greek civilization, which continues to radiate even after his death. Theodorakis was a deeply thoughtful scholar and troubled creator. He had a solid theoretical background, a coherent theory about the world, life, art, on the basis of which he considered, reflected and interpreted things. His theory oriented and guided his action, his creativity and his work. Despite all this, Mikis Theodorakis was and remains "the greatest known-unknown Greek". His work in its entirety, his action, his beliefs, his ideology, his personal identity are not known. His most invisible side is that of his theory. This book aims to present a panoramic theoretical portrait of Theodorakis and to illuminate his theoretical side. Theodorakis' theory is examined in the fields of philosophy, ideology, politics, culture, aesthetics and musical art. All these individual theoretical fields constitute "the whole" of his theory.
