Born in Famagusta in 1964, Basaran Duzgün graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Broadcasting at Gazi University. He worked as a journalist at the Yenidüzen newspaper and as the Editorial Director at the Kıbrıs newspaper. During his tenure there, he was tried by a military court with a 10-year prison sentence, survived a bombing attack on the newspaper building, faced a travel ban in Turkey due to his writings, and founded the newspaper Havadis in 2009. The author, who has six books to his credit, made a strong entry into the literary world with his first novel, *In the Land of Orphan Horses*. His journalistic background imbues the novel with a meticulous research discipline and a commitment to historical facts. Duzgün portrays fiction as a web woven from the unknowns of life, while at the same time approaching the facts with the sensitivity of a historian. This duality makes the work both a gripping novel and a documentary of historical study.
