Voix de femmes, voix de France

Country of Honour: PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION

with Eva Poliviou

DESCRIPTION (FOR THE PROGRAM)

Which voices make up contemporary French literature? What is the stigma of the female experience, when it is transformed into narrative?

From the experiential prose of Annie Ernaux to the theoretical interventions of Julia Kristeva, and from the literature for teenagers of Marie-Aude Murail to the autobiography and essay of Véronique Ovaldé, Claire Berest and Claire Marin, women in France write with intensity, boldness and political awareness.

Maria Margaroni, Associate Professor of Literary and Cultural Theory in the Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus, poet and short story writer Nora Nadjarian, and literary translator Despina Pyrketti discuss the work and influence of these voices in and outside France with historian and writer Eva Polyviou. The discussion focuses on the importance of women's writing today, as well as issues of identity, language, and translation.

The event is open to the public and is accompanied by visual and editorial material.
