Report “Rhetoric and Hate Crimes in Cyprus”

The publication was prepared within the framework of a project entitled Confronting Hate Speech, Behaviour and Crimes in Cyprus of the PROMETHEUS Research Institute.

The main objective of the study is to present a comprehensive scientific research documenting the problem of the extent of the character, forms and victims of hate speech, behaviors and crimes in Cypriot society. The research traces the manifestations and roots of the phenomenon historically, but emphasizes the period after Cyprus' accession to the European Union.

The historical perspective contributes to understanding the sources and causes of the emergence of the phenomenon. At the same time, it allows us to monitor the evolution of the phenomenon and to what extent it keeps pace with and/or incorporates changes in the social structure of Cyprus.
